"Lawn Ornament II" By Eva Marie Tanner Klaas

I took a photo of this pickup truck on a lawn after I painted it on a Wednesday plein air get-together. The truck owner assured me that it would be there for a few months because he couldn't afford to fix it. A couple of weeks later, it was gone. I was glad I took a photo.
This was painted with a limited palette so I would focus on the values. I simplified the background. I tried not to get too detailed with the truck. I can see a slight perspective issue with the headlights. I will fix that later.
Anyway, here is my 9x12 painting of Lawn Ornament II.

Audi Stanton's Landslide

Audi Stanton's ability to find beauty demonstrates the heart of a true artist.  Here is a wonderful example with her current artwork appropriately named "Landslide".  The pine tree and rocks are painted in such a way that they appear to be sliding off the hill side. This movement holds our attention and lets us know there could be danger.  This is an outstanding work of art for any art collector.  For more information contact brookingscoastalpleinair@gmail.com.

Eva Marie Tanner Klaas' "Tea Time"

"Tea time" 8x10 Oil with palette knife with canvas on board
Here is Eva Marie Tanner Klaas' study called "Tea Time." This was painted with palette knife which allows her to layer color one after the other. No muddy brush strokes here. The tablecloth color is created with layers of pink, yellow and then purple with a lot of white.  The background color is blue, red, orange, yellow, magenta and green.  The teapot's light side is orange, yellow, red, magenta, pink, bright green and a touch of white.  The shadow side is magenta, orange, yellow, pinks , bright green, blue and purple and a touch of white. The cast shadow has purple, blue, pink, magenta and white.  The grapes light side is yellow, blue, pink, bright green and some white. The shadows side is blue, purple, green, yellow, pink and a touch of white. The shadow has blue, purple, pink, green and a more white. Each of these color is layered upon each other to keep the color underneath. You don't blend too much unless you want a duller effect.  Color relationship is important when painting this. The green grapes and lavender tablecloth all reflect into the clay pot.

Audi Stanton's Path

Audi Stanton's Path
I don't think you have met many artists like Audi Stanton. She creates from the time she wakes in the morning until she goes to bed. She doesn't just make beautiful paintings. Audi sews  little girl dresses from plastic bags; re-purposes one of a kind vests into arty fashion statements; stamps, paints and sews cloth, art dolls with words of wisdom and wit; designs journals with collage covers; and creates abstract check book covers with found objects just to name a few. Audi Stanton, also, teaches classes!
Come see her new work at any of the local galleries  You will not be disappointed.

UPDATE: Audi Stanton Has A New Show At Wright's Custom Framing

Audi Stanton is currently showing her large acrylic collages in the small gallery at Wright's Custom Framing in Brookings. (509 Chetco Ave. 541-469-7900) The first reaction people have is: WOW! She has always had a passion for metal sculptures, but was never inclined to make them herself. She invented a way to have faux metal sculptures in spite of not ever working with metals. Her work is made from heavy watercolor paper painted with metallic acrylic paints and enhanced with various textures. They cast wonderful shadows on the wall because they are hung a little bit away from the wall at any angle you like! Certainly decorator pieces. Some of the acrylic collages are very colorful, happy and fun. For example: "Yellow and Blue Jazz" and "Carnival"  will put a big smile on your face!  An outstanding show.
