Day 19  of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge by Leslie Saeta. Here is Jennifer Thompson's watercolor on paper. Value Study XIX; Spooky. "Spooky" is the name of a slot canyon on the Escalante National Monument, near Escalante, UT. This was a difficult study. The rock is sandstone, weathered by water over millenia. Rock is typically hard but these undulate in almost feminine fashion.

Day 19 - "Atmosphere and Distance" By Eva Marie Tanner Klaas

Day 19 and here is another study from my landscape class with Terry Miura. His demonstration was about atmosphere and distance. I painted this from his demo to reinforce what he taught. Again, I paint these studies on canvas sheet and write notes on the back after they dry. (I write down notes in a sketch book and transfer the information to the back of the study).  I can then store the canvas sheets in a book format and refer to them. Priceless information.

Oh my goodness... it is already day 17.  Here is my color study from this week's class. It took me 7 hours to paint this and I was grateful for the instruction. I had to compare the green background, to the green pot  and then to the green in the lemon. Yikes. It was difficult for me.   Excellent instruction. Excellent lesson.

Value Study XVI, untitled. It is hard to think of a title when the subject is such a personal memory. A summer day, warm but not hot. We had just finished a very pleasant visit with dad and mom and one of the regulars at KBOK offered to take a photo. The cub was looking pretty; she had just been restored. The possibilities were endless and all was right with the world.

I wanted the hair to get lost into the foliage on the left but it was so visibly confusing and my left brain SO wanted to help, and the bread was starting to burn and the baby was crying....oh for the love of Pete! I better stop whining! It is only paper and paint and I can try again.
